Powell Station BART from SFO Airport is the 10th station after leaving SFO. There are two lines that start at the SFO Airport terminus. The Red Line services the SFO to Richmond route, while the Yellow Line services the SFO to Antioch/Pittsburg-Bay Point route. Scroll down to see BART Map.
The BART passes through a few of San Francisco’s adjacent cities like Colma and Daly City, as well as a few of San Francisco’s neighborhoods like Glen Park and The Mission. The last stop before arriving at Powell Station is Civic Center.
Taking the BART from SFO Airport to Downtown San Francisco is definitely #TheAffordableStuff. especially when you are alone. The cost of the BART ride from SFO International Airport to Powell Station is $10.00. This is definitely the more affordable means of getting out of SFO and heading to downtown San Francisco when you are by yourself or with one other companion. Ridesharing apps, like Uber and Lyft, would cost around $50.00 USD when traveling from SFO Airport to Downtown San Francisco. The price would also depend on surge pricing or how busy it is during the specific time of day you are traveling. If there are four of you (max number of passengers for UberX), it could be more affordable to take an Uber or Lyft compared to riding the BART.
As someone who lives in San Francisco, I consider Powell Station as the heart of downtown San Francisco as it is near several neighborhoods in this part of the city. Exiting Powell BART Station takes you to arguably the main avenue of San Francisco which is Market Street. From Market St. you can easily walk in all directions and be able to reach a few of San Francisco’s tourist sites. The neighborhoods that are in the vicinity of Powell Station include, the south of Market (aka SoMa), Nob Hill, Chinatown, the city’s Financial District (aka FiDi), Little Italy, North Beach, Russian Hill and the Tenderloin. Each of these neighborhoods has its own quirks and interesting places to visit. Check out my other articles describing each of these neighborhoods including the sites (and maybe sounds and tastes) unique to each of them.
