Attractions at San Francisco’s Financial District

San Francisco’s Financial District (FiDi), the city’s economic epicenter, is not only a business and finance hub but also in itself an attraction and destination for tourists.

This article explores the top five must-visit destinations in this bustling district.

I. Transamerica Pyramid:

It is one of San Francisco’s most iconic landmarks as it is very easy to spot when you’re in the neighborhood or in fact even when you’re in FiDi’s adjacent neighborhoods like Nob Hill, Chinatown, Little Italy, or even up to North Beach and Russian Hills as this pyramid-shaped tower rises majestically above the skyline. It has been made as an iconic symbol of the city. While you can’t tour the building’s interior, you can admire the architecture from the surrounding streets. The redwood park at its base, known as Redwood Park, provides a peaceful escape from the urban hustle and is a great spot for photos. [Note: as of 11/8/2023 the Redwood Park is closed due to construction]

II. Embarcadero Center

Located at the heart of FiDi, the Embarcadero Center is a bustling complex of four modern office buildings connected by walkways and plazas. It is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and a cinema. Visitors can relax in its many sitting areas, both covered and al fresco, while taking in the picturesque views of the area. The upper level walkways and parks are ideal for eating with friends especially on sunny days.

III. Ferry Building Marketplace

The Ferry Building is a historic landmark, located at the foot of Market Street. It is that building right by the water that has a clock tower. The building has been transformed into a vibrant marketplace showcasing the best of San Francisco’s culinary scene, from Peruvian empanadas to the Filipino sisig. Artisanal food vendors abound in this venue which include bakeries, cheese shops, seafood markets and wine shops. It is truly a food lover’s paradise. If you are in the area on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, do not miss the Farmers’ market for fresh, locally sourced produce and gourmet treats.

IV. Jackson Square
